Experts in AI met few days ago at the School of Computer Science Engineering of the University of Malaga. The meeting was organized by the NEO research group, headed by Professor Enrique Alba. This kickoff meeting was aimed at developing and analysing the impact of AI on today's society. Researchers from very different fields, such as engineering, humanities, social sciences, law, and translation and interpretation, participated in this event.
"Just as other countries around the world are working on strategies for AI, we also need at UMA a kind of organization of AI researchers to make new collaborations, exchange knowledge, and promote AI", said Prof. Alba.
In this first meeting about AI at UMA, attendees identified several opportunities to collaborate supervising PhD theses and working together on research projects with the aim of joining efforts to iimprove the much needed transfer of knowledge from University to Society.
"The continuing advances in AI are re-shaping the world", said Prof. Alba, who also added that people's recognition, self-driving vehicles, smart cities, robotics, bioinformatic, and human-computer interaction will mean a revolution for our lifes. A final conclusion was also that a careful study of ethics and social implications of AI are also paramount for this technology and efforts to come to a good end.
